Building the foundation of tomorrow´s energy supply Monopiles EEW Group Products Structural Pipes Offshore Wind Monopiles More diameters for the energy of tomorrow As a pioneer in the production of monopiles, our customers can rely on long-term manufacturing knowledge gained from the completion of more than 70 offshore wind projects. With a production capacity of more than 200 monopiles per year, the EEW Group is able to contribute significantly to the global expansion of offshore wind energy. Since 2008, EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH, located in Rostock, Germany, has supplied foundations for offshore wind projects worldwide. With EEW American Offshore Structures, founded in 2020 in New Jersey, USA, the EEW Group is ready to supply the fast growing US-American offshore wind market with high-quality monopiles. Reasons to partner with EEW Group ~ 12 m Outer Diameter 2500 t piece weight 120 m total length The rising global demand for energy is driving growth in offshore wind turbines installation. Consequently, the size of the monopiles that are the foundations for these turbines is also increasing. As the world's leading manufacturer of large-diameter pipes, EEW has both state-of-the-art technical equipment and extensive know-how to anticipate these trends early on and to offer customers the ideal solution for their project. Our EEW monopiles are produced from high-quality steel plates. Thus we are able to process all common offshore grades starting at S355 up to S460 and above. EEW monopile processing services Coating In close collaboration with our partners we can provide different coating systems. Besides the typical organic coating of monopiles we also offer automated Thermal Sprayed Aluminum (TSA) coating. The specific corrosion protection made of TSA and its favorable 'self-healing' long-term behavior due to chemical reaction allows the omission of additional cathodic anodes. This then leads to cost-effectiveness and environmental benefits. Secondary steel Besides the monopile production we offer our customers the application of secondary steel elements for monopiles such as stubs for boat landing or ATP rings. Reasons to partner with EEW Project Management With our top performance in production, our flexibility as well as our ability to adhere to delivery appointments and budgets we have developed excellent skills in project management and have established standardized processes in order to handle large scale projects. With two almost identical monopile mills we have the opportunity to split projects and speed-up customer orders. Logistics With direct access to the port both EEW monopile facilities are strategically perfect located to load and transport the monopiles. We provide our customers with full logistical concepts and supply chain management for storage, transportation and load out (RoRo, floating, self-geared vessel and crane concepts). Research & Development In order to meet the increasing requirements of turbines and installation sites, it is elementary that we continuously develop our monopiles. Our internal research and development department works closely with our customers to design high-quality foundations for future wind farms. Transition Pieces Transition pieces can be used to connect the towers of the offshore wind turbines with the respective monopile. Made up of a steel pipe construction, the primary steel part, as well as secondary steel elements such as platforms, ladders or boat landing systems, transition pieces are essential construction components of offshore wind turbines. Acting as a general contractor, our offshore wind specialist EEW SPC provides the primary steel for transition pieces for final outfitting at the yard or a TP supplier. In addition to straight steel pipes for monopiles, transition pieces, pipes for jacket constructions and piles, EEW offers additional services, such as coating or the fitting of secondary steel components. Our Point-to-Point Construction Service is another special aspect of our product portfolio. With this service, we provide ready-to-install pipe components for our customers. Reasons to partner with EEW Group Research & Development The demand for energy is growing immensely and the installation sites of offshore wind farms are becoming more demanding. Both changes result in higher requirements for offshore wind foundations. With extensive R&D programs, EEW is continuously developing its products to fully meet the growing technical requirements. Logistics All five EEW plants, specializing in offshore wind foundations, are logistically excellently positioned to supply foundations to projects all over the world. Thus, all production sites have direct port access so that constructions can be loaded directly onto vessels or floated to the installation site. Project Management Extensive projects require extensive project management. The project teams are assembled according to their product-related know-how as well as their project experience. EEW supports its customers with many years of expertise and worldwide availability. Decades of global experience We support our customers in realizing their projects in that, we do not simply produce single lengths of steel pipe, but also ready-to-install and individually pre-fabricated steel pipe components. EEW has always conquered new business areas by seeking and understanding industries and markets. The latest proof was at the beginning of this century as we decided to employ the collected expertise gathered over decades in steel pipe fabrication to enter the offshore wind market . Today we are a market leader. At the beginning of the 1970´s, EEW was one of the first pipe manufacturers that recognized the increased need for pipe components in the offshore oil and gas industries. Today, our customers can trust in more than 85 years of experience. Since production began in 2008, EEW Special Pipe Constructions GmbH has been making a significant contribution to the expansion of the global offshore wind industry through the manufacture of monopiles, pin piles and other large-diameter pipe components at the Rostock Overseas Port. Through a comprehensive plant expansion, EEW SPC will now align its technical capabilities with future market requirements whilst investing in high-performance and internationally competitive production capacities in Europe. With investments running into the tens of millions in machinery and space optimisation, EEW SPC is further expanding its market position as one of the world’s leading suppliers. “By expanding our plant, we are positioning ourselves for the future while strengthening industrial value creation and security of supply in Europe. The investment helps to increase the resilience of the European supply chain. This is particularly well-positioned to meet future demand, especially with regard to foundation manufacturers. The result is a comprehensive range of products from European manufacturers that can fully meet future requirements without the need for imports from third countries such as China. The plant expansion therefore helps to ensure that European offshore Expansion targets can be achieved reliably and at competitive costs,” said Sascha Hofmeister, Technical Managing Director. Plant expansion enables 12-metre diameters from 2028 The plant expansion focuses on technical and infrastructural measures within the existing production halls. Based on an efficiently designed plant and logistics concept, targeted measures with a significant impact have been identified and had already been initiated in mid-2026. Initial steps, such as extensive refurbishment and hall construction work will be completed as early as the beginning of 2027. As part of this, a neighbouring industrial site was acquired, amongst other things, which will provide additional capacity for raw material storage in future. Further investment measures will follow in the course of 2027 and 2028. From the second quarter of 2028, the Rostock plant will be able to manufacture monopiles with a diameter of up to 12 metres – instead of the previous 10 metres – and a unit weight of up to 3,000 tonnes. The total annual capacity is 200,000 tonnes under normal operating conditions. “In 2008, we began manufacturing monopiles with a maximum diameter of six metres. Since then, the rapid development in the performance of offshore wind turbines has led to an equally dynamic evolution in foundation dimensions. We have consistently kept pace with these developments in the past and have built our innovative strength on the challenges we have faced. We intend to continue demonstrating this strength in the future,” says Commercial Director Robert Dreves. Assessment of further potential expansion phases Given the ambitious European and global offshore wind expansion targets, turbine development will continue to advance in the medium and long term. This will further increase demand for monopile foundations with diameters of up to 15 metres. For this reason, EEW SPC is already in close consultation with the relevant state authorities and the City of Rostock, as well as the port authority, to evaluate possible further phases of plant expansion from 2030 onwards at Rostock’s Port. Potential future sites are also located in the immediate vicinity of the existing plant. The timely provision of such industrial capacity requires reliable and continuous expansion pathways, as well as long-term planning and investment certainty. Through these planned investments, EEW SPC is demonstrating its long-term commitment to Rostock as an industrial location and to the European offshore wind value chain. The site combines industrial expertise, skilled employment and short transport routes, thereby contributing to the resilient and sustainable achievement of European expansion targets.
