The energy transformation in the USA has gained a lot of momentum in recent years. EEW SPC is supplying the first offshore wind farm under construction, "Coastal Virginia" on the American East Coast, with 176 XL monopiles. The monopiles have diameters of up to 9.5 m. In total, EEW SPC is processing more than 200,000 tons of steel. EEW SPC already delivered two monopiles for the pilot phase of the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project in April 2020. At that time, these were the first monopiles ever to be installed in U.S. waters.
"The largest wind farm in Europe to date, Hornsea 1&2, is already standing on our monopiles. Now we are pleased to announce that the largest wind farm in the USA is also being built with our foundations. With the construction of Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, Dominion Energy is getting closer to its self-imposed goal of carbon neutral power generation by 2050 and we are pleased that we can also do our part," said Michael Hof CSO of EEW Group.
"EEW SPC is a highly reputed global leader in the offshore wind industry and has provided excellent support during the construction of our CVOW pilot," said Joshua Bennett, Vice President Offshore Wind at Dominion Energy. "As construction progresses on our commercial project, we look forward to continuing our relationship and likewise providing large scale offshore wind to our Virginia customers."
EEW's supply to the CVOW project marks an important milestone for its entry into the U.S. offshore wind market. Approximately 30GW of offshore green energy is expected to be installed in the United States by 2030.
